Portlanders!

Portlanders online!

Has anyone heard of or seen the Hammer Horror film called 'The Dammed'? It was directed by Joseph Losey in 1963 and starred Oliver Reed, Macdonald Carey and Shirley Anne Field. It was filmed on Portland and Weymouth with Oliver Reed playing the leader of a motorcycle gang from Weymouth who come across a group of children living underground in bunkers on Portland affected by a nuclear experiment that went wrong!
Thats all I know about it. Sounds wierd but I would love to watch it!!!

I've got a very old VHS copy of it - I think Oliver Reed drives an E-type Jag. Not one of his best films but a must for anyone who knows Portland.

I would love to borrow it if possible Gwyneth. I live in Poole and the moment but plan to come down soon!

Hi Scott,
not sure why its on so late...They screened it for the first time last autumn at the same time!
I was suprised at the Portland locations including some caves at the Bill?Mind you it could have been Shepperton....
Theres a 'gang' scene in St Georges churchyard, the leader climbing on one of the statues sure its still there? Then theres the 'Top secret' Rotor establishment at the verne, now the riding stables.During this part of the film we see a security barrier. You have the well documented scenes at the beach road,Old Ferrybridge,& Cheyne House.
Also the junction of Coastguard Rd/Albert terrace is clearly seen as the gang stalk a man and beat him up by the wall which still remains! I enjoyed the location shots but found the film plot somewhat bizzare!

Hi Everyone...Dont forget anyone whos been waiting to see 'The Damned',your need to stay up into the early hours of tomorrow(Sat). The film is on BBC2, 0205-0340,those who dont well you may wish to record it.
The Damned or Oliver Reed may no be everyones 'Cup of tea',but to see our lovely Island in B/W nearly 50 years ago is facinating,Its great to see our Islands charm all those years ago, has been captured on film for future generations.I wonder what 'Oliver Reeds' lasting impression of our Island were?

If I remember rightly he saw it usually in a fuzzy blur due to high level of alchohol but as you say b/w just pictures the Island perfect
