Interestingly I am on the 97th post on the http://portland-bill.com site and for the 100th post wanted to post a list of 100 facts, unusual tidbits, etc on portland...

I wondered what you great bunch to come up with?

Any thoughts?

Could we all come up with 100...

Aparently, Only rumour mind!, there is something so secret on Portland, that still exists today, that, if became known to the world would have put our country to shame in the 2nd World War. But I do not know what it is! Intresting snippitt? Not sure!

It must be a good secret as Ive not heard nowt about anything terrible conected with the War.......Urm,Let me have a guess lads;Did someone break Island tradition and reveal the 'Portland Dough Cake Recipe'...Shame on them!

Rob,not sure if you have completed your list of '100 portland facts'.If you need a couple more facts,I wondered if you know the following?
In 1949,a young Michael Caine was sent to Portland dockyard,by his employers Rank films Org.He was employed as a (uncredited) tea boy on the set of the film 'Morning Departure'.On set he was shown the skills of lighting,sound & camera skills.Although Caine never starred in the film,it was his first step into a long film career ;totalling over 100+ films which began at Portland!

would that not make the lighthouse about 150m tall?.... or did the tweed suit bloke have a big umbrella?
